DBS have showcased our commitment to the next generation by joining The 5% Club, an industry lead initiative focussed on driving momentum into the recruitment of apprentices, graduates and sponsored students.
The campaign was initiated by defence technology company QinetiQ with an aim to get the UK’s public and private companies to commit to raising the number of apprentices, sponsored students and graduates on formal programmes to 5% of their total workforce within five years.
The aim of the campaign is to tackle both the chronic skills shortage and youth unemployment in Britain and help the country remain at the forefront of innovation. It also asks members to publicly report their progress in their Annual Report.
DBS recognise and understand the value of training to our industry and how important the mix of academic and practical learning is to young people looking for a career. We currently operate 3 recognised apprenticeships, two trade apprenticeships;
NVQ3 - Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment
NVQ3 - Heating and Ventilation - Industrial and Commercial
And one office based BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Business Administration.
In addition we run an in-house training programme taking school leavers and graduate apprentices and sponsoring them through further and higher education to become Design and Contracts Engineers and Quantity Surveyors.
We currently have 24 employees completing apprenticeships and a further 10 employees completing HNC or Degree level courses.
Dr Sam Healy, Programme Director of The 5% Club commented;
"We’re delighted to welcome DBS to the initiative. The company’s existing efforts to invest in the next generation are greatly welcomed and together we can strive towards a brighter future for young people in Britain.”
